Police department accepting applications

The Decatur Police Department is accepting applications for people interested in becoming a full-time police officer.


Chief of Police Leonard Corral, Jr. said applicants must be at least 21 years old, but not older than 36. Other stipulations: High school graduate (or GED}, have a valid Indiana driver's license, pass a thorough background investigation, never been convicted of a felony or a domestic violence offense, complete an interview process, and be of good reputation and character.

Candidates must also pass a written test and a physical agility·test meeting the minimum standards for entrance to the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

Chief Corral said the hiring is contingent on that person successfully completing the physical and psychological testing for acceptance to the Public Employee Retirement Fund (PERF).

The Decatur Police Department offers PHP healthcare, Delta dental, PERF Police Pension plan, 13 paid yearly Holiday days, paid vacation time, and a clothing allowance.

Applications may be picked up from 8:00am to 4:00pm from July 11, 2018 to August 1, 2018 at the police department, 112 S. 7th Street. Applications can also be printed off the departments website www.decaturinpolice.com.

Applications must be turned in no later than 4:00pm on August 6, 2018.
